IT consultant

An IT consultant was commissioned to create an e-commerce website for online ticket vendors. One of his systems 'accidentally' developed a bug, and tickets were sent out to the site's random visitors, and not its paying customers. The site's owners claimed the cost of reimbursing its understandably dissatisfied customers.

Hiscox wrote to the unintended recipients, asking them to either return or pay for their tickets.This action accounted for most tickets, and Hiscox paid the claimant to settle the balance.

Recruitment consultant

A new company hired a head hunter to find them a finance director. The new recruit was a flop, and, the company wanted to sue the recruitment consultant for breach of contract. The claim was that there hadn't been sufficiently rigorous background checks on the candidate. Hiscox paid for the mediation and settlement of the claim.

Property claim

A company's basement was flooded following torrential rain. The wooden flooring, carpet, decor and computer equipment were all damaged. The Hiscox loss adjuster quickly found contractors to dry out the basement, carry out repairs and replace the damaged equipment.

The work was completed to the client's complete satisfaction and Hiscox settled the full cost of the claim without cutting any corners.
